| Cabot Cheese and Moon Pies |
If you're wondering why the Cabot Cheese logo is
listed on the last page of my book, here's the "Rest of the Story..."
I was interviewed by the local newspaper last February and was asked by the reporter, "Tell me something you can't resist?"
Naturally, I said, "Cabot cheese, good wine, and great works of art."
A week after the story appeared in the paper, I received a big box in the
mail from Cabot Creamery of Montpelier, Vermont. It was filled with CHEESE!
Along with an apron, cutting board and knife, and a letter thanking me
for mentioning Cabot cheese in the newspaper. I wondered how they knew!
I called the company and learned that someone who lives in Portsmouth
saw the article and sent it to Beverly Baker, regional sales manager
for Cabot, and she sent it to Cabot Cheese. Now, here's the "cheesiest"
part of the story. When I called to thank Cabot cheese for sending me
my favorite snack, it dawned on me that perhaps the company would be
interested in sponsoring my children's book, "Hurray for the Yoder
Barn!" The woman on the phone said, "Go ahead and send your manuscript,
and we'll see what happens." The NEXT DAY, I get a phone call from Beverly Baker in Richmond. She loved my story and said, "What can we do to help?"
I needed $5,000 to print 2,000 books. Cabot cheese
sent me a check for $5,000! I will be eating and promoting Cabot cheese
for the rest of my life! Thank you, again, Cabot, and especially,
Beverly, for making a dream come true. Now, at book signings, I hand
out Cabot cheese coupons, and sometimes, samples of "the world's best
cheddar" to my customers. Many times, people tell me that they
have not heard of Cabot cheese. I tell them where to buy it and to
please not deprive themselves of eating Cabot cheese...because it truly
is the best cheddar and if you haven't tried it, please do. I promise
you won't be disappointed!
