My mother and grandmother instilled a love of reading when I was very young. Two of my favorite childhood books are Alice in Wonderland and A Child’s Garden of Verses. When I was in the 5th grade, I won second place in a writing contest for a poem called God’s Creations. Looking for adventure and a chance to travel around the world, I joined the Navy when I was 19 and became a journalist. I wrote news and feature stories about our servicemen and women for their hometown newspapers and loved every minute of it. Art has also been a passion of mine. I graduated from Christopher Newport University with a degree in fine arts. Creating a story in the printed word and then bringing it to life through my artwork is truly rewarding! I hope children will enjoy reading my first book, Hurray for the Yoder Barn!
